ASFTP Rhode Island Online Program provides food protection / management training and facilitates access to the official certification exam.

Food Protection Manager: Required.
Food Handlers: Recommended but not required.

Food Handler Course: Recommended but not required.

State Requirements: Shall employ at least one certified full time, on-site manager who is at least 18 years of age. Establishments with 10 or more full-time employees must have at least 2 certified managers.
​
Rhode Island has updated their regulations related to food protection manager certification training and certification, effective October 31, 2017.
These are the main changes:
-
Instead of the previously required 15 hours of training, only 8 classroom-training hours will be required.
-
Managers will need to retake a certification exam every 3 years.
-
The health department is no longer enforcing a 6-hour training course requirement prior to recertification. Managers may prepare for retaking the manager certification exam using study materials of their choice for any amount of time needed.

There must be a Certified Manager on site during meal preparation and serving times.

The final regulation clarifies the language that requires food establishments to have a written food safety plan

ASFTP online food handler training. Food handler training is optional in most areas of Rhode Island and this course provides excellent food worker training to teach the important principles of food safety to food handlers. Your local regulatory agency may have additional requirements. Please contact your local regulatory agency for more information.
A food handler is defined by law as a person who works in a food facility and performs any duties that involve the preparation, storage or service of food in a food facility. This program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) against the ASTM standard.
This training is a general food handler course.
This course takes approximately one hour to complete and, upon successful completion, provides a printable food handler certificate. This certificate is good for up to five years.
This course is not to prepare workers to take the Food Protection Manager certification exam. The course to study for the certification exam is the Food Protection Manager Certification Course.
Exam is given at the end of the course and a proctor is not required.
