Frequently Asked Questions

FOOD MANAGER CERTIFICATION QUESTIONS

Q.How Long does it take to get my Food Manager course log in information?

answer: within 24 hours of purchase

Q.How long will it take to receive my Food Protection Manager Certification?

Answer: 7-10 business days as of the date of your test completion

Q.Is it necessary for the Food Managers Certification exam to always be proctored?

Answer: Yes, unlike the regular food handler card, for CAlifornia and san diego, which can be taken from home un proctored, this test must be proctored. Also unproctored, are : Alcohol, Allergen and food handlers from other states. You can double check about the food handler for your unique state, county, jurisdiction. But if you can take it online, typically, it does not need to be proctored.

Q.is your food manager really accepted throughout the country?

answer: for the most part, yes, except new york, new york. they are the only ones, that literally have their very own certification, and course, that only they can provide. please see our new york state food manager page under online certification, for more info and links.

Q.Why is it that san bernadino and riverside and san diego do not accept the state wide ca food card?

Answer: Because these three counties, had their own food handler certification, prior to the state initiating IT'S OWN FOOD HANDLER CARD PROGRAM at a state level, so their programs were grandfathered in, and remain unchanged. but we do provide san diego food card.

Q.why is my employer in the san diego county  requIRING me to take a 'live' class and proctored san diego food card COURSE?. I'm having a hard time finding a provider to help me. AND WHY DO YOU OFFER AN ONLINE PROGRAM, IF MY EMPLOYER IS ASKING FOR A LIVE CLASS?

Answer: Yes, that is extremely frustrating, isn't it?. The answer is that, due to san diego, having their own food card program, way before the CA food card was established state wide, their standard for years was always a live class and a proctored exam, of 40 questions. Now, the health dept, has fully accepted the san diego card to be done online. but, the majority of large enterprises and employers in the food industry in san diego, are simply 'conditioned' and use to requiring the live class, and feel the live class is a higher standard, thus they, in house, request a new employee to seek out a live class. And the card they get with a live class is different from the one you do at home, printed from your computer when finalizing the online San Diego food card course. Fortunately, we can help with a home study, that provides the actual card that you would get if you were to attend a live class, if you consult with your future employer, we can assist you with this.wE DO PROVIDE LIVE GROUP WORKSHOPS AND EXAMS IF THERE ARE SUFFICIENT PEOPLE TO CATER TOO, ONSITE.

Q.What is the difference, between servsafe, Prometric and national registry?

answer: nothing. they are all equal in the eyes of the law. all three base their food manager certification exam on the nationally recognized fda food code. and all three are ansi approved. some companies, due to tradition, prefer one over the other. but the health dept, which in reality is what truly counts, as per compliance with the law, will not prefer one over the other. Your local health dept inspector will see all three as equivalent, and compliant.

Q.how long is the food managers exam?

answer: 80 to 90 multiple choice questions, depending on who you test with. servsafe throws an additional 10 questions, making it 90. Prometric only has 80. National registry currently is 80. But max questions will be 90, on any exam, if they decide to add questions.

Q.how long does it take for me to finish the test, on average?

answer: about an hour two hours max. some finish in less than an hour. it depends on the person, experience and study habits, and absorption of the material.

Q.does the certificate belong to the business that paid for my certification?

Answer: no, the certificate belongs to you. it is a personal document that carries with you. if you leave your employment, that document carries with you, like a drivers license. you can buy and sell cars, but your license does not transfer with your vehicles.

Q.if I lose my food managers certificate, how can i get a copy?

answer: we charge 45 dollars to assist you with requesting a copy, and it takes 7-10- business days for it to arrive via mail.

Q.Can I use my certificate for more than one location?

Answer: no. your certificate is only good for the location you manipulate food at. example: if you own 5 restaurants. you have your food managers certificate. Your certificate will only be good for one of your five restaurants. the other four, need to have someone you trust, to have certified. if that person leaves, you are left with finding a new certified individual for that establishment, to be compliant. the same applies to food trucks, food stands, and food event caterers.
