FOOD PROTECTION HANDLER

ASFTP Illinois Online Program provides food protection / management training and facilitates access to the official certification exam.

State Requirements: Certified Food Protection Manager on duty at all times and Food Handlers must take an ANSI/ASTM 2659 approved course. After completing an ANSI-accredited certification, the City of Chicago requires one more step to obtain a City of Chicago Food Protection Manager Certificate.  Applicants must submit an application to the City of Chicago.  My Food Service License will guide you through this process. 

Food Protection Manager: Required.

Food Handlers: Required.

Exceptions: None.

Manager Training Hours: Manager Training Hours: Effective July 1, 2014, 8 hours of training is required. 

Food Handler Course: Must be a ANSI/ASTM 2659 approved course.

Food Manager Certification and Food Handler Certificate Renewal: Food Manager every 5 years; Food Handler every 3 years.

A food handler is defined by law as a person who works in a food facility and performs any duties that involve the preparation, storage or service of food in a food facility. ASFTP course provides Food Handlers the confidence to effectively serve safe food.  This program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) against the ASTM standard and is available for use in Illinois. Exam is given at the end of the course and is not proctored. Course fee includes; course, exam and state specific food handlers card. 

 

Who is required to have a Food Handlers Certification in Illinois?  Any food handler working in Illinois, unless that person has a valid Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification (FSSMC) or unpaid volunteer. If someone working in a facility is not a food handler on a regular basis, but fills in as a food handler when needed, they must have food handler training.

 

This course uses state-of-the-art programming and can to be used on all computers, tablets and smartphones, without the need for any other downloads. 
 
Upon successful completion of your course and test, you will print your Food Handler Card.
